If there’s one factor Twitter needs, it’s a way for me to downvote my haters
Have you ever been scrolling via Twitter and thought, “This website should simply use a few Facebook-style emoji reactions”? Yeah, me neither. Nonetheless, the organisation has been surveying users throughout the last month about that possibility, TechCrunch reports.
Per screenshots of the survey that a Twitter user shared, the proposed emoji reactions should consist of the basics — a giggling face with tears, a wondering face, a crying face — and a few spicier variations — surprised faces, angry faces, fire emojis. They can also consist of a downvote or dislike option.
A Twitter spokesperson tells The Verge, “We’re exploring additional approaches for user to express themselves in conversations going on on Twitter.” The spokesperson emphasizes that Twitter’s research continues to be in its early stages and referred to that the emojis might exist further to the current “heart” button, instead of changing it.
Neither emoji reactions nor downvotes might be a completely unique feature of Twitter. Facebook employs a set of the former, and the latter is a significant feature of Reddit and YouTube comment sections. That said, Reddit and comment sections generally tend to function more anonymously than Twitter and Facebook, wherein users extra normally exist and publish as their public selves.
That’s why that is an extremely annoying statement for me. If I receive downvotes on a random meme I publish on Reddit from my completely anonymous account, I will now no longer blink twice — they’re downvoting the meme, not me. But I can simplest imagine that a downvote on a tweet, coming from my private account with my name and photo attached, will experience like a personal affront, and it will likely be embarrassing and devastating sufficient to drive me off the site and force me to find alternative hobbies. Actually, by no means mind. I’m completely in prefer of those features.
