7.12 Cr E-Way Bills in March-2021; Highest in a Month During Last Three Years

The e-way bill system reached a new landmark with over 7.12 Crore bills created in March 2021. Ever since the introduction of the e-way bill, this number is a record high. March also broke another record: of the highest number of bills generated in a single day since the inception of the system three years back. On March 24, 2021, 27.86 Lakh bills were generated, a single-day high.

Overall, 180.34 Crores e-way bills have been generated since 2018, when the system was introduced by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in accordance with GST Council guidelines. Between April 1- June 18, 2018, the rollout of the system took place in a phased manner. e-Way Bill has made inter-state transportation of goods smoother and more efficient. When is e-Way Bill Needed?

If the total value of the consignment is more than Rs. 50,000 then the following have to produce e-way bill:

  • Transporter: When the goods are being transported via highways and the sender is not in possession of a billing document, then it’s the responsibility of the transporter to generate the bill. The e-way bill has to be made on the basis of details mentioned in the invoice.
