Watch: Giant Sinkhole in Mexico Farm Swallows Home Family

A large dump hole that appeared at the end of May on a farm in Central Mexico has grown bigger than the soccer field, starting to swallow a house and trap two dogs at its depths.

The Puebla Central State Government responded on Thursday for emotional requests from animal lovers to try to save the two dogs, which were stuck on the ledge on the side of the hole that dropped 15 meters into the water.

Because the soil that is loose on the edge keeps fainting into the water at the bottom of the hole, it will be dangerous to try to save the animal. But officials said they had thrown food to two puppies, named Spay and Spike.

“In a responsible manner, the rescue of Spay and Spike, which falls into the disposal hole in Santa María Zacatepec, is being analyzed,” said the state government in a statement. “Even though conditions are risky and take all precautions, dogs have been fed.”

Pressure is built on officials to do something. The dogs, which apparently played in the farm field around the drain hole, fell about four days ago.

The non-profit animal rescue squad voluntarily tries to bring a dog. The unit proposes sending the savior to the top of the rope and say animals may have to be arrested so that they can be captured and pulled up.

Sinkhole is now more than 125 meters in several places, and maybe 45 meters at its deepest point. It’s hard to say, because water fills the crater.

The Mexican government has sent an army to keep people 600 meters away from the edge of the hole, which is 15 meters.

“It’s a very difficult time for us. It hurts, because this is everything we have,” said Magdalena Xarage Xopillacle, the brick and Cinderblock slowly collapsed into the drain hole. “Sometimes we feel sick because it’s so sad.”

Some residents believe that Sinkhole is the result of excessive groundwater extraction by the factory or water bottling plant in the area. But the bottom of the hole is filled with water that seems to have a strong current, and the national civil defense office says experts think it is caused by something like the underground river.

“It is very likely that as long as it is associated with the underground water flow,” the office said.

Puebla Gov. Miguel Barbosa said experts were studying various possibilities, and if the water extraction was the culprit, he would cancel any permission.

Quoting the risk of further soil fracture, the office warns people to stay away from the site in the city of Zacatepec in the state of Puebla, East Mexico City.

“This is not a tourist object, or a place to visit with your family,” the office said on Wednesday.

The authorities have arranged metal barriers and the tape to maintain the audience, and have limited the drone to fly on it.
