UGC Declares 24 Universities As Fake; Most From Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: Higher Education Regulatory Agency, the University Grant Commission (UGC), has stated 24 “own styles” false and have found two more norm violations, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Monday. Mr Pradhan made the statement in response to a written question at Lok Sabha. These institutions function against UGC actions and do not have the power to negotiate with students. Uttar Pradesh has the highest false institute (8) followed by seven in Delhi.
“Based on complaints received from students, parents, the general public and through electronic print media, UGC has declared 24-style institutions themselves as fake universities,” UI Education Minister said. “In addition, two more institutions – Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow, Up and Institute of Management and India (IIPM), Qutub Enclave, New Delhi was also found to be functions as a violation of Act UGC, 1956. Uttar Pradesh has eight highest fake universities – Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya Varanase, Varanasi; Mahila Gram Vidyapith, Allahabad; Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Allahabad; National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy, Kanpur; Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Open University, Aligarh; Uttar Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya, Mathura; Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Pratapgarh and Indraprastha Shiksha Parishad, Noida.

Delhi has seven fake universities – Commercial Universities Ltd, UN University, Vocational University, ADR Centric Juridicial University, Indian Science Institutions and Engineering, Wiswakarma Open University for Entrepreneurs and Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya (Spiritual University).

Odisha and West Bengal each have two universities like that. These are: Indian Alternative Medicine Institutes, Kolkata and Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Kolkata and Nababharat Shiksha Parishad, Rourkela and North Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology.

Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry and Maharashtra each have one fake university. They are – Sree Bodhi Academy of Higher Education, Puducherry; Christ New Testament Demed University, Andhra Pradesh; Arab King University, Nagpur; St John’s University, Kerala and Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society, Karnataka.

Outlining the steps taken by the UGC against false or unrecognized university, Pradhan said, “UGC problems are public notifications on a list of false universities / institutions in the National Hindi and English Newspaper.”

He said, “The Commission wrote to the Secretary of the Head of State, the Education Secretary and the Primary Secretary to take action against such universities located in their jurisdictions”. “Show notice causes and warnings are issued for the invalid Institute to provide an invalid degree when the stylish institution itself is found or considered to function as a violation of Act UGC, 1956.”
