Washington, United States: The Pentagon was on lockdown Tuesday after reports of a shooting at a terminal just outside the secure US headquarters .
Employees within the US Department of Defense headquarters within the Arlington suburb of Washington were ordered to shelter in situ amid reports of several gunshots and possible injuries within the station, the doorway of which is simply a couple of dozen yards (meters) from the building’s main doors.
“The Pentagon currently is on lock down thanks to an event at the Pentagon Transit Center. We are asking the general public to please avoid the world ,” the Pentagon’s private security force said during a tweeted statement.
The local news station WUSA showed an image of heavy security and fire and rescue vehicles at the long-lasting five-sided building.
There was no immediate report of injuries.
