Eighteen people died after a truck crashed into a bus where they slept on the road in Barabanki District Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday. They were reportedly destroyed by the bus.
The accident took place at the Lucknow-Ayodhya Highway in the Ramsanehi area of Ghat around midnight. The victims, workers who worked in Haryana and Punjab, returned home to Bihar when the bus axle did not work, police said.
S. N. N. Sabbath, Adg Lucknow, said many of those traveling on the bus decided to sleep in front of the vehicle or on the side when the bus driver told them that repair work would take time.
Eighteen people were confirmed to die until now, he said.
PM rebuked loss of life, announced ex-gratia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday stated sadness by losing his life in a road accident in the Barabanki District of Uttar Pradesh and extended condolences to the grieving family.
In a tweet, Mr. Modi said he also spoke to the chairman of the Minister of Yogi Aditentalath and the arrangement was being carried out for the right treatment of injured.
Mr. Modi also announced ex-gratia ₹ 2 lakh each from the National Prime Ministerial Fund for the next Kin from the deceased. The injured will be ₹ 50,000 each.
Priyanka asked Cong. workers to expand assistance
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday spend loss of life in an accident on the road in Barabibi District Uttar Pradesh, and asked party workers to expand all assistance affected by the incident.
“I was very sad about the news about the crash on Barabanki. My deepest condolences to the deceased families. I prayed to God for a quick recovery of injured,” Congress leader said in a tweet in Hindi.
