New Delhi: A large-scale explosion tore KimTool chemical plants in Rockton, Illinois on Monday. The Rockton Police Department issued a mandatory evacuation because of the flames caused by an explosion.
“Rockton Fire has ordered a mandatory evacuation due to chemical fires. This notice affects all occupants and businesses within a one mile radius from 1165 Prairie Hill Rd. Continue to Stephen Mack School. Avoid the area in a mile,” order reading.
About 70 employees at the factory when firefighters arrived safely evacuated, said Head of the Rockton Fire Department Kirk Wilson. A firefighter suffered a minor injury. The chemtool parent company, Lubrizol Corp, then added that there were closer to 50 employees who were present when evacuation was underway.
The crew of 40 or more firefighting departments that responded to the fire fanted to respond to spot fires, grass fires, and burning debris that the wind pushed into the community. Wilson explained that this fire was caused by pieces of cardboard boxes and wooden palette pieces, and not chemicals that fell from the sky.
